I love history so enjoyed my visit here immensely. This place is not big but contains some well-preserved buildings and artifacts. These do a great job of telling the history of this town and a few of the peoples whose lives are interwoven into the story of the area. Who knew this tiny town has a connection to the Donner Party? Not me, until today. The exhibits are very informative and well put-together. The park staff were great - helpful, funny and friendly.

I love San Juan Bautista and the state park is beautiful this time of year. Everything's green all the buildings and all the plants look clean and sharp and I even love the chickens. Yes I said chickens. They roam the streets and the gardens and if you're lucky enough to show up on Festival days you may just be dancing the chicken dance with the rest of the whole town. Great restaurants good music nice people but still small and hometown.

I LOVE this little gem! Recalling having had such a wonderful experience visiting this extraordinarily well kept historic park as a child, my father & I made a day of visiting 40 years later. There has been no better kept museum I have authentically seen since. Keep in mind I’ve been to the Louve in Paris! I cannot say enough about this experience. You must go!

Great place. Just love everything here. I drive down at least 3-4 times a month and grab some Dona Esther's and hit the state park

In the rainy season the trail has Adobe mud that will stick to your shoes like glue. It is also very slippery. You might find yourself with 3lbs of Adobe stuck to your feet. That is especially bad on the way back to your car as the last mile back is Very steep and down hill.In the dry season better bring water to drink and sun screen .The trail is exposed to full sunlight and there is at least a mile of very steep walking. Even though there is a large sign posted at trail head that dogs must be on a leash many people don't respect others enough to do this. The trail head for the first quarter mile was littered with dog feces so watch where you step. It has some nice views but also has some problems. This is not a typical state or county Park trail. There is only one porta-potty at trail head so go before you head up the trail. This trail is not for the hadicapped or for children who might get tired and have to be carried.Strollers cannot be used here. The sides of the trail are blocked on both sides by barbed wire and mostly have very steep drop off.
