Rented a room for spring break. There was a bug in the window sill. Asked the housekeeper about it and he said I brought it up from the beach. Told him I never went to the beach. He said they were sand fleas and that was normal to have them in the room. Like I was out of line for asking about it. Then he kind of watched me the whole time I was at hotel. After I told him it was no big deal then he stopped asking me about it. Wanted to use pool next to lobby it was murky and smelled heavily of chlorine. Pool area was dirty and looked like it had not been tended too in months. Clerk had view that the pool was so healthy because she said it had sea water. No hot tub anywhere. But the water looks really dirty and murky and I had a tummy ache after swimming in it. The lobby only has stairs so if you book a room there you will be climbing 16 steps to get to second floor because there isn't an elevator something clerk didn't mention when she booked me on second floor. I had to ask about elevator. Expensive for these "amenities". $145.00 a night. Its not like they have any desire to listen to customers or make any changes - they are of the opinion that you either like it and stop complaining or go somewhere else. Obviously from the other reviews they aren't interested in listening to customers. After getting sick from the pool and seeing the bug in the room and being deceived about the stairs in the lobby and the overall attitude they had about it and their trying to somehow explain all of this as the "beach experience" I didn't even spend the night. Not to mention when I was checking in there was a little kid who said to her mom that she thought she saw a whale out in the ocean from the lobby window (they have a huge picture window in the lobby). Like I said it was spring break and they had a lot of guests from out of town, the clerk said in a real definitive manner to the kid that there was no way it was a whale because it wasn't the time of year for whales. Later I turned on the TV in the room and the local news said it was whale season on the Oregon coast so it shows you how much they know about the "beach".

This is a run-down, salty-dog of a beach hotel; even by Shilo standards. “Affordable Excellence”?? Affordable, yes - but not so much on the excellence. The hotel staff were delightful (and the only reason for the two stars and not one). Upon entering our room with an “Ocean view” (if you consider a view a bit above the roof of the building in from of us) we found the bathroom sink full of black mess - not sure what to call it, see photos. Calls the front desk and they sent a maintenance man to clean it. He was not able to get it unclogged so they moved us to another room. That was much better with an actual view. Still, these rooms are tired and in dire need of a renovation! Again, the staff were fantastic, and did everything they can to make our stay comfortable. However, next visit: gunna have to book a different property.

The staff is amazing. I lost her card but the front office gal that works nights is past amazing. I've stayed here 2 times in 2 months and will always go back. The staff is so kind to my daughter and I. I will always recommend. It's an older motel but I still love the stay. I cannot hear neighbors. The view is past amazing. My friend Cy and I loved the front desk lady. Her laugh was fantastic and she remembered me when I came back the second time. To me it's about the customer service. This place gets 5 stars from me for it.

Place is ok, room was dirty, floor was not vacuumed, comforters on beds had what looked like dog hair, shower had hair on walls and on floor around toilet. Walls had stains. Room had a particular odor to it, like from the dirty, older, overweight family members house. Probably from the carpet which reminded me of a buffet type restaurant, like Hometown buffet, old, dirty and musty smelling. Outdated decor. Window frames were pulling away the joints. Could see daylight between the frame and wall. Some rooms have a view of rooftops of other rooms. Front office staff was nice and polite. Highly recommend staying at either Inn to the North or South of Shilo.

Hotel was ok upon arrival. Since arrival, a steady decline in services. We booked the hotel since it had 2 pools, over a hotel with a continental breakfast, and to our dismay, both pools are “out of order” and neither have a specific time of availability for patrons. When we contacted the front desk to speak with a manager, front desk staff stated they’d just spoken with the manager and would not let us speak with them directly. We were told the pool needed serviced “from time to time” which is absolutely true, however, proper communication and organization of such would promote timing conducive to patron needs. Pool is closed from 11pm-8am for example, and service could be managed during those hours. We’ve tried to access the pool during posted and front desk communicated times, 9-11am, 1pm and now are told it’s going to be several more hours, and will not be open at the next posted time, 3pm. Given the pricing, location and subsequent customer service. Not a good choice, especially for a family.
