About

Story

Built between 1910 and 1913, was originally named The New Cliff House then later the Hotel Gilmore. For several years, in it's early history, it was the honeymoon capitol of Oregon.

Now on the Register of Historic Landmarks, and renamed The Sylvia Beach Hotel by owners Sally Ford and Goody Cable, it's a tribute to Sylvia Beach - owner of Shakespeare & Co. Bookstore in Paris during the 20's and 30's and one of the century's greatest patrons of literature.

Quiet nooks for reading, writing or whatever you wish you had time to do. It's right on the beach for walks at any hour. Hot breakfast included. Author themed rooms. It is a delightful place to relax and recharge, with no distractions.

I totally enjoyed my stay. The staff was excellent, the room was good, and met all of my expectations. The provided breakfast was also good, although it would have been nice to have scrambled eggs. But hard boiled was fine. I really loved staying there!

An amazing experience for any book love as anyone that enjoys getting away from your high tech lives. The view of the ocean from the top floor is wonderful, make sure to make a reservation for dinner, you won't regret it and probably make a friend or two! The Collette room in my opinion has the best view, see my pic.

Great dinner! I had dinner at the Table of Contents and it was SO good! I have multiple dietary restrictions, which can be a pain for a busy kitchen and the chefs handled it beautifully. Everything was cooked to perfection and was absolutely delicious. They seat you at large community tables and serve everything family style, even the main dishes (choice of four when you make your reservation). We had lovely conversations and it was a wonderful experience, especially as a solo traveler. The view of the sun setting on the water was spectacular. The dining room is set up to maximize this view. I highly recommend this set course dining experience.

We have been going to the Sylvia Beach Hotel for close to twenty years. It's our favorite place for a few days relaxation. No TV. No Internet. No radios or telephones. Just the beach and books. For the bibliophiles the name gives it away. The eponymous Sylvia Beach was an American expat in France who was friends with all the important writers of the day. The building started off as a lodging house for timber and fishing workers. Each room in the place from Oscar Wilde to J.K. Rowling is decorated in honor of a different author. There is a library with gorgeous views of the Pacific. The atmosphere is incredibly laid back. Breakfast is included. Dinner is a steal - a four course prix fixee for under $30.
