Story

After more than 75 years of caring for Pinellas County’s homeless pets, SPCA Tampa Bay has expanded its programs to help pets that are still in their homes. The SPCA Tampa Bay Veterinary Center provides comprehensive pet care through a full-service veterinary hospital, preventive care, and spay/neuter clinic – all in one facility. Any pet owner – not just owners who have adopted from SPCA Tampa Bay – can bring their pet to the Veterinary Center for full-service care that includes preventive, medical, surgery, and general care services.

With each visit, clients of the Veterinary Center can feel good knowing they are helping to “paw it forward” for other animals in the community. A portion of all revenue supports the programs and services at SPCA Tampa Bay’s animal shelter in Largo, as well as helping other families with their pet’s care through the Caldwell Keeping Families Together Fund.

I would stay away from this place if at all possible.  We brought our 18 month old cat to them after she was sick with a virus and had fleas.  They hospitalized her for day after giving her an antibiotic, IV fluids, and a flea prevention.  After a day of being home, her temperature was still high, so we attempted to bring her back into the office and they refused to see us.  They sent us to an emergency vet clinic (yes, for a fever...).  I immediately called a local vets office who looked over her chart and boy was I in for a surprise.  SPCA Tampa Bay gave her an antibiotic that was off-label use which no surprise did nothing.  They claim they gave her a flea preventative and bath, however her coat did not appear to have either.  After seeing another vet, my cat was back to being herself in six hours.  This place is a TOTAL joke.  I practice medicine on humans, so I have a good idea of how this system is supposed to work and I would not ever trust one of my pets with these folks again.  Very sad because they have the ability to provide excellent care to our great community.

The SPCA Tampa Bay Veterinary Center is fantastic! We took one of our cats there in November for a teeth cleaning since it was much more affordable than quotes I’d gotten from other vets. We were happy with the work performed and liked the staff so much that we switched to this veterinary center for all of our cats needs. Last week, one of our other cats had a terrible hotspot that needed vet assistance. The friendly staff got us in quickly and even contacted us when another appointment was cancelled so that we could come in a day early. We’d told them that our cat was abused before we got him and is consequently quite skiddish. The staff took care in making sure that the visit went smoothly. Dr. Gisel and her assistant (Dylan) were wonderful with our nervous cat. They kept him as comfortable as possible and made what we thought would be a difficult visit into an easy one. I’m so happy that they have the Paw It Forward program. The money I spend on my pets is used to help other pets in need. All in all, SPCA Vet Center has a clean new facility with a fabulous staff and great rates. Visit them and you will be pleased!

My Vet is Dr. Nocole Mayne and she is fantastic. My dogs are older and she really takes the time to explain everything. Her Assessment skills are spot on. You can tell she loves what she is doing. She also gives you homeopathic remedies when appropriate. The staff is awesome. Very friendly and willing to help. I am glad I made the change.
