Not sure why there are so many bad reviews on here but I had an AWESOME experience with Thrity Car Rental. It was my first time ever booking with them, never heard of them before. I booked with them through southwest's website on my trip to Charleston, SC. I had no issues. Walked out of the airport, looked for their shuttle outside and it took me straight to their facility. The facility is only about 5 or so minutes from the airport. 

Car: I rented the economy car because it was a weekend trip, didn't need much room anyways. I politely declined their offer to upgrade to a different and better car/truck. They surprised me and upgraded me for FREE to the next best car, the car of my choice - went with a Nissan Truck. It was nice, I was skeptical and hoped they'd charge me for it. They didn't :) charge me any extra for the upgrade. So it was great driving a better and bigger car.

Drop off: had no issues, just pulled up, someone walked around the car, took the key. Didn't have to sign anything and I was on my way to the airport again. 

Manager/Staff: The manager, was really nice (Kelly I think - was there on a Friday afternoon). The other young man with dread and cornrows were pretty nice as well, good sense of humor.

Verdict: I'd highly recommend them to ANYONE who's looking for a super cheap and quality rental. The only thing they charged my card $330.00 then refunded the difference, so don't freak out if you see a higher charge at first. They WILL refund you the difference, so in the end you'll only pay what the car was actually worth. 

GREAT EXPERIENCE WOULD DEFINITELY USE THEM AGAIN & REFER PEOPLE TO THEM! Best car rental company in the Charleston, South Carolina area...in my opinion (only one I've ever used.).haha.

Worst rental experience EVER! ( although shuttle driver from airport was superior). Booked with Travelocity, called 800 number for thrifty to verify reservation and totals. Was told that there is a 15 percent extra hold fee that will be refunded after return. When I got there, counter guy called me "man" a lot and once all was done they added a 200 dollar hold plus the rental!!! I told him that thrifty said it's a 15 percent (7 dollars in my case) hold. He said "that's our policy...man". Had no choice, I took the rental. Called thrifty 3 times to complain, was told it should be 15 percent, last call a supervisor said she could give me the number of that locations manager, I said they don't help there, just argue, but she insisted I call the manager at the location and she hung up! I called the location and a very nice lady said, "oh, we are privately owned and charge our own fees, corporate offices only charge 15 percent". NEVER RENT HERE!!!

The service was incredibly slow; I waited over an hour for the two people in front of me to be served (even though I had an appointment). While I was waiting, workers were audibly complaining about other customers while on the floor. After I was finally served, I waited ten minutes for them to "bring the car around". When I went back inside to ask about it, they informed me they actually didn't have a car for me. Finally they ended up giving me a car that had been sitting in the lot the whole time, without a full tank, and after driving less than 10 miles said that it needed an oil change. We called to ask about it and they hung up on us; we had to call the corporate line to get any help, but they were only able to tell us that the manager was supposed to be in but they didn't know why she wasn't.

I guess you get what you pay for...maybe.  They didn't have any full size cars, which is what I had reserved.  They offered me a pickup truck or a tiny SUV, both of which they claimed were upgrades but fit far less in them than a full size sedan.  Customer service was non-existent, but again, they were cheap. I'd probably go a different route for the next rental in charleston.

My boyfriend and i rented a Ford f150 from thrifty. Brand new truck. Check in was fast. Truck rides Great. Staff was very friendly.
