Beautiful park on the lake. In January we were the only ones there. We only had sewer and water hookups but there is a dump station so no big deal. We only stayed two nights but the staff was very accommodating. We arrived after hours with no reservation and we called to let them know and they said just to pick a spot and pay in the morning. Very cheap park which is amazing for the view. They have kayak rentals, putting course, hiking trails, restrooms etc. Would stay there again. It should be mentioned that the gates close at 10pm.

Tugaloo State Park, Lavonia, GA 02/03/2018 Thur 01/12/2018 Online reservation was easy. Last minute change by phone went very well. Arrived and was greeted by a very friendly ranger who seemed really glad we were there. I also met a number of rangers / maintenance people who were all just super. Just started full timing recently and this was my first stop after leaving my home of 21 years with my 35’ 5th wheel. When I got to the camping area, I was a bit nervous by the tight roads with tight turns, and tree root bumps. The most friendly campground host suggested I just stop and take my time walking around and pick a spot. I did just that and found a beautiful place. The drive and park was a bit intimidating, but here I am, happy as can be. When I made the reservation, I didn't’ realize that there were no sewer hooks up, my fault. So after a short time I had to pull out, dump, pull back in. Actually a blessing since I got more experience driving around the tight park. So we just used the park bath rooms and showers which were very clean. Our site was on a hill in a pine forest overlooking the lake, absolutely beautiful. Given the time of year, my wife, my dog, and I had the park mostly to ourselves. A few miles of hiking trails gave me views of a number of different birds (I love finding new birds) to running into deer many times. Being my first stop, I know little but I do know this. My wife, my dog and I really loved this place. Perhaps If lucky, I will return to camp host one day.

As with any experience a person has, you will find pros and cons, especially as they pertain to your style. If you are a boating person, this is the place for you. Plenty of wide open water, yet it has high boat traffic. They say that there are plenty of fish in these waters, and they do have tournaments from time to time, but I can't imagine how anyone could fish with this much boat traffic. We much prefer the laid back kayak style, but again, with the boat traffic, good luck. The park itself is beautiful. There are many, many camping sites, though that is also a problem that makes you feel like a sardine. The sites are smaller and are right on top of each other. Some are waterside, and some are right along the main park drag and there is an inadequate number of places to park extra vehicles. There are many bathrooms/showers that are quite clean, well maintained, and appropriately spaced given the number of sites. Laundry is available at most of the bath facilities (1 washer/1 dryer). Campground hosts are friendly and around often. You'll see some deer (NO HUNTING) running around, sometimes in larger packs, that aren't easily spooked. You can get fairly close for pictures and such as you hike the trails or even just driving around. Overall, our personal experience hasn't been overly grand, given our more laid back and private lifestyle, but I can see how others would greatly love the park.

Cool location for get-togethers. A lake you can swim in. Plenty of pavilions to rent for special occasions. I held my company's picnic there and we all had a blast. It's hard to find catering in the area so I would suggest (for those who are having events) plan to grill on your own or have a special caterer drive up from one of the major adjacent cities and pay them a little more for the delivery.
