What a beautiful place. The view was amazing. The weather was not so amazing. High winds and heavy downpours. We hunkered down and stayed an extra day. The weather was beautiful the first day we were there and we took advantage of it to walk the trail and learn about the formation of the area. Very nice park. The restroom was sparkling clean , large and bright. Water and electric on site and a dump station conveniently located.

Signs have pretty good amount of sun damage and trail is short but it works very well since it's paved and saves your feet from being torn up by the basalt. Ladies at the visitor center were very helpful. If you're active duty military you should consider getting a military pass for free admission to all Fed. Parks(visitor center here can provide one for you).

Very nice clean park. We spent more time here than we had originally planned. Drove around sightseeing. Absolutely gorgeous area. One minus is the wind can come in the middle of the night and be very strong. Will return if we travel out this way again. Very nice visitors center and book store.

This is a very neat place to visit. We have stopped here a couple times during trips through the area. It starts off as just a black strip off in the distance. As you get closer, the landscape changes and you realize that what is on the ground is lava rock. Upon entering the park area, you are able to view out over the lava fields and see the expanse of the ancient lava flow. With the walking path, you are able to venture down into the valley like area and wonder among the mounds of lava rock. It has been a neat experience each time we have been.

Excellent recreation area. The walk through the lava field in great. The walk through the lava formation is fairly easy. Many different lava rock formations can be seen here, There is also a small visitor center and gift shop. I was really impressed by the 600 year old juniper.
