For $25, you get to see three sparsely filled floors of the worst of American impressionistic garbage. The fact that this is even called art shows the complete degradation of standards in our society. If you want a museum that will neither uplift nor inform, this is the museum for you. The real shame here is a beautiful building in a beautiful location being used like a dumpster. A large, lovely, and interesting building that could house something beautiful is instead being filled slowly with trash. What a shame. It is no wonder other societies see America as a cultural abyss. If this Museum represents American artistic culture, they are correct.

The Whitney always has pretty interesting exhibits (and they better, to justify the ticket price when it's not pay-as-you-wish). I love joining the guided tours because, honestly, how else would you understand some of the works? Sometimes the guards actually know a lot about the art as well from having heard tours going on. I went to see the Biannual recently, and a guard was explaining a work he heard the artist talk about the other day, and I could not believe the level of detail that was packed into the piece and that I would have otherwise missed. The building itself is pretty fun to wander around, too, with the outdoor spaces and floor-to-ceiling windows.

Well curated, great collection of modern and contemporary American art. Building is very open and airy but doesn't feel too sterile and the size is just right for an afternoon, you can spend about 1-2 hours here. Some floors have an outdoor terrace area with good views of the south of the city as well as north over the High Line. Worth a visit before or after walking the High Line. Staff are friendly.

Beautifully architected building with equally impressive interior. They have some of the most intriguing art exhibits here. Check the exhibit schedule before you go because sometimes floors are closed due to exhibit preparation.
