I don’t like writing of negative experiences, preferring instead to shrug them off, but my latest experience with Alamo at Reagan International (DCA) disturbed me to the point that I needed to share. My family and I arrived to a customer-empty counter with 2 agents chatting behind the counter in a foreign language. I waited about 2 minutes for them to finish their conversation before he called me over. He was cordial enough but then he asked me for 2 forms of id and I told him I don’t have another. That’s when he said no second id, no car. I complained and he just shrugged. And then he and the earlier gentleman started laughing (again in a foreign language, assuming at my current predicament). I hunted around until I found my military id and provided it as my second id. And then, halfway through the booking he said his computer isn’t processing my credit card and I needed to use the self-service kiosk. What if I didn’t find the second id? Shouldn’t your website be updated to include this information? But wait, it gets weirder …. My family and I go to the rental cars with paperwork in hand. There are personnel at all the rental booths except for Alamo. The rental booth is empty... but there is a large gentleman “asleep” behind the wheel of a car parked in front of the booth. I told my wife “This counter is empty, let’s go find someone” and he shouts “I’m here, what do you want?” So I hand him my paperwork and he, still reclining in said car, points to a Ford Fusion in the full size area and says I can have that. There was an entire line of full size cars but that’s the only one available to me? So I said what about something else and he says, no, the Fusion. So my family and I walk toward the Fusion. Right next to the Fusion is a Chevy Equinox. So instead of trying to fit the toddler seat in the Fusion, I walked back and said the Equinox has more room for the car seat. And that’s when he went berserk! Shouting at me saying “you paid for a full size, that’s all I’m giving you”. And during all of this, please remember, I was calm and polite and never disrespectful. So I walked back to my family who are all listening to this outburst from a few feet away. A gentleman who introduced himself as “one of the managers” walks up to us after hearing the commotion and asks what’s wrong. I explained to him the events that transpired. He says “I’m his manager, of course you can have the Equinox, and I apologize for his behavior” and then he walks up to the person who – believe it or not – is still resting in the front seat of the car (imagine a La-Z-Boy chair fully reclined – now imagine that being in the front seat of a car) and starts talking to him. And he starts raising his voice to his manager. Shouting at the top of his lungs that people need to get what they pay for and that I paid for a full size. The Equinox was in the full size area right next to the Fusion so I am still baffled by this. He got out of the car and I thought he was going to slug his manager. It was surreal – almost other worldly. The manager just shakes his head and walks away. We put our bags in the Equinox and drove off. Still can’t believe that this transpired. It’s like Alamo - Twilight Zone edition – only real. I am going to provide this transcript review on all the public facing review websites that I subscribe to (google, Yelp etc. as well as any comments you respond with) and will be emailing every person I can find at Alamo corporate. You cannot conduct a business with this kind of public facing personnel. My sincere appreciation to the manager that stepped in and his attempt at resolving the situation when it happened. It would have been better had the rude employee never been there to begin with.

Alamo has been great for me. Decent prices, decent cars, decent service. This last visit was especially nice, and actually they have always been very nice to me: I've rented a number of times over the past five years or so. The only complaint I have is that sometimes the cars aren't as clean as I might want them to be: occasionally they smell like smoke, and sometimes I have to clean the mirrors and windows again myself, but they turn them over quickly sometimes I guess and the price is right. The cars are always in excellent condition and I feel very safe in them. Dunno why I'm not giving a full five stars except that I rarely do that. Drive safely!

I have rented from Alamo almost exclusively for the past two years and could not be more pleased. Every representative of the company I've met have been personable, pleasant, make eye contact and act like it's a company they're proud to work for. The garage attendants offer help loading luggage, and the exit booth attendants and return staff are pleasant. I love being able to pick my own car from the among the class I've reserved -- the latest rental was a brand new XTS Cadillac with less than 10 miles on the odometer! Thank you, Alamo!

I was surprised when asked for 3 forms of ID when picking up the vehicle. I also understand Alamo representatives have the best interest for its organization but I wasn't pleased when trying to sell me insurance that I didn't need. However, the car did provide reliable transportation.

Great experience. Got in and out very quickly. This was the first time that I had driven a Hybrid card. The young lady at the checkout gate was very knowledgeable about the car and went over some of the operating aspects of the car for me. This was very helpful for me. Thanks
