Staff exceeded my expectations. The process did not take long nor did it take long to get the car. The DCA rental service does a wonderful job during the final check out of the vehicle. Returning the vehicle is even a quicker process than checking out. If you are seeking great service with people that are truly compassionate and dedicated to assisting you, then Dollar is the place to go. I was able to select my vehicle, which was clean and did not smell of smoke. The only thing they can work on, is cleaning the windows better, but that is minor to the overall wonderful experience.

Despite all the negative reviews, we were surprised by the customer service that provided care that was above and beyond what we've experienced anywhere. Note that in the greater DC area, there are tolls everywhere, so I'd recommend getting the toll pass (though it may be costly). Additional drivers are not included, so know that ahead of time. Despite these aspects, which pretty much exist with all rental agencies, the woman who helped us make the reservation was very kind and helpful.

Rented a van for the weekend for a road trip. Line was super long with only one person working... which doesn't make sense for an airport location. After using the kiosk to skirt the growing line and getting vehicle (only 1 van left so no choice but wasn't bad for what i needed). Get to the exit and it's backed up with two lanes open. Waited in line and attendant was very nice and apologetic.  Also,  at airport location,  there's no parking for personal vehicles. So if someone is trying to drop you off, there's nowhere for them to park and wait and it was very frustrating to find entrance to dollar due to no signs other than rental car return. Anyway,  while on the road,  the maintenance light comes on in rental van! So that was stressful not knowing what was wrong. Then,  I called to extend reservation a few hours and had to pay an additional $85!!! The rental for the entire weekend was $137! How is a few hours over half the cost of weekend?! Total ripoff for customers running late on returns. Won't be renting with them again after today. I'll stick with paying a few bucks more at other places.

These guys are absolute crooks. 

I rented a car through Dollar about a year ago, only to have them fabricate a bogus red light running ticket that they claimed I incurred during my rental.  However, when I inquired about it, they claimed they could not produce any evidence of a citation, and proceeded to charge $180 to my credit card.  Now, a year later, I just received a letter from a collections agency saying I still owe them $216, even though the "debt" was settled in full.  On top of non-existent customer service, they will try to squeeze every penny possible out of you. 

You have a choice in who to rent a car from, so if you respect yourself and have better things to do than fighting lengthy collections battles, rent from anywhere but here.

I got a flat tire, and they were able to exchange my car at no extra cost and they waived the late fee even though I was three hours late. Definitely get the insurance, though.
