Let's premise: I travel two weeks every month and go through a lot of airports and car rentals. The good: Payless happened to have the best last minute rental deal by $5 a day and I had never rented from them so I gave them a shot. They didn't have a compact car as I requested available so they upgraded me to a mid size without me having to ask. Female desk employee was very nice and efficient. The bad: The fundamental importance of renting a car at an airport is getting processed quickly both on arrival and departure. Every rental car company understands this and will check your car in and print you a receipt in the return garage. Every single company but Payless. I was handed a piece of paper in the garage and told "I can't check you in here, you're going to have to go to the desk, you don't have to wait you can just go right up." This didn't seem likely and it wasn't, so I found myself running late and waiting in the leisurely paced line to get my final receipt. Even if this is an isolated incident and their machine to print receipts in the garage just happened to be broken when I showed up then it is indicative of the overall management approach to allow that to be a operational possibility and to be an acceptable practice in the field. Things happen but an extra effort to adhere to industry standards and customer service is rewarded with repeat business and allowing it to lapse is punished by bad reviews and no repeat business. I do not recommend this rental company overall as they will likely deliver a poor or, at very best, inconsistent service and product.

It's unfortunate they don't offer a zero star rating. This is the absolute worst car rental company I have ever dealt with. Upon drop off there was no employees to get any kind of confirmation of drop off so I left the car in the appropriate area. I later received a bill that included an additional 3 days after the car was dropped off. After spending time disputing the bill they adjusted it and the correct amount was charged. Then nearly a year later they are attempting to charge me for the same inaccurate bill again that includes 3 days I wasn't even in the state. Clueless billing department and complete ineptitude for the inventory of their fleet.

Been waiting at the counter for 15 minutes. No one has even been out to ask us if we need help. Not a good start. After finally being "assisted" by the creepy, smarmy worker who rudely asked as I returned, how the search for an assistant was going, since he watched us waiting, didn't offer a single greeting or 'I'll be right there' type of standard customer service. This bastard had the audacity to flirt with my wife right in front of me. He did not describe the vehicle's location, easypass, claimed that the gas we could buy through them for $4/gallon was cleaner than the $2.17 gas in town...for a Honda Fit.

Do not use this service. We made a reservation through them as jetblue trueblue members. They knew our flight landed at 10:50pm and we would be picking up at 11pm. When we got to their desk, no one was there. The sign said "wait here for service." We waited for about 10 minutes before asking at one of the other desks what was up. Apparently they close at 11pm! We went to the Avis desk (waited in like 30 minutes), hopeful they would help us as the parent company. No go, but they said we could pick it up TOMORROW MORNING. Literally the least helpful advice since we're driving to New Hampshire tonight. Plus we saw at least four other people with reservations at Payless who were also out of luck. We've spent $200 and we have no car. Worst experience ever. Update: I think because we booked through TrueBlue, we are getting a refund for "no-showing." So at least we didn't lose any money on the deal, just our sanity.

Do not hire from Boston Airport. Currently trying to extend my rental dates and the phone number on the website is either wrong or the phone is off the hook. The automated message is from the 60s and is useless.
