Very well maintained memorial museum. Make sure you have enough time to go through the whole history as it takes at least 2-3 hours to completely understand the essence of the real story. You get to pick a card (which is yours for ever) and have a feel of being the person in that card - someone who lived during that horrific period in history. Some very nice videos, recordings, and pictures.

Not to be missed on your next trip to Washington, DC. This historic and important museum is layed out extremely well. This self guided tour is one you can take at your own pace, but the displays are moving and well done. There is a good mix of pictures, historical content and video. This will leave you thinking for days after your visit. Do not miss the videos of live interviews at the end. This progressive tour takes you on the journey and helps you understand not only the horror of what happened, but the historical event that led up to it. You will not be disappointed.

Going up to this place I thought it was going to be like any other national museum, rude security ( Yeah what's up with d.c Smithsonian museum security being assholes) but as soon as you walk in you can tell that this one is a little bit different. They have some short exhibits like what it was like to be a child during all of this, but they also have an exhibit that stands out . One exhibit you are given an ID of someone who died during the holocaust. You take an elevator to the top floor, from this point out you go through the entire story of WW2 and the holocaust. At the end there are some things telling the experiences of certain country's. Lots of information and very moving.

Best museum we visited this trip. My 12 year old son was enthralled with the details of a subject he had been learning about in school. Younger children probably won't get as much out of the experience. The individual storied and personal objects impacted me the most.

I definitely think everyone should visit this place. It’s free like every other museum in D.C.. You only need tickets from March - September any other time you just walk in. Make sure to get there early though. It’s usually very crowded! Be prepared to spend 2-3 hours here. There is a lot to stop and see/read and a lot of audio stops that are worth taking the time on. Be prepared to fell every emotion you hate to feel; anger, sadness, broken hearted. It’s not easy. To get through, but so worth it.
