I have used Budget for 4-5 times in 4 years - to rent a car when we needed an extra vehicle at my house in Grand Rapids. I always have gone to the airport to rent because that is the only place that will take debit cards - NOT. I was told today that they do not take them and never did - which is a lie. I have emails with reservations to prove I rented there in the past with my debit card. I was told today that their website states that they do not take debit cards - which is a lie. Here is the copied statement from the airport Budget rental website "This location does accept bank debit cards with the MasterCard or Visa logo at the time of rental if you are at least 25 years of age. At airport locations you will be required to present proof of a return airline ticket that coincides with your rental. You will be subject to a credit check to determine creditworthiness. The name of the renter must be on the debit card. At the time of pickup, a debit card cannot be used for the required hold if renting Convertibles or for specialty vehicles and certain other premium vehicles. Budget will generally request an authorization hold against your account for the estimated rental charges, but reserves the right in it sole discretion to request extra value based on certain factors as we deem appropriate. If you have prepaid with a debit card the hold is only $100. THESE FUNDS WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE FOR YOUR USE. Upon returning the vehicle, Budget will process a release of the unused portion of the hold subject to your Bank's procedures. The hold may take up to 2 weeks to be released by your bank. If you fail to return the vehicle as agreed, Budget will obtain additional authorizations from your account to cover the rental charges. Budget is not responsible for any returned checks or over-drafts based on this policy. Positive identification in addition to your driver's license may be required. In the United States, Debit, Cash or Check cards can be used at the end for payment of rental charges." Two peope told me the same lies today - I am not happy. We had to find the next Budget place and wait to get my rental agreement modified for that place. Someone needs to update all Budget websites. Funny how they took my prepayment on my debit card.

I recently emailed Pam McCray (manager at this office) and Andrew Schutz (Budget operations manager) about my unpleasant experience and got completely stonewalled. DON'T COUNT ON BUDGET FOR YOUR VACATION!!!!! We recently rented a Nissan Armada from Budget between 12/23/17 and 1/1/18. The vehicle was dirty and smelled like an ashtray when we picked it up. The windshield wipers/fluid sprayers weren't working on our drive to stay with family in Illinois so we had to pull over around every 30 miles to pour deicing fluid over the windshield to be able to see the road. The front driving sensors would go off any time your speed dropped below 15mph even though there was nothing in front of us. The engine had a loud knocking that I have a video recording of. I drove to the 2 Budget rental locations closest to us in Belvidere when we got there trying to switch the vehicle out. They told me to call roadside assistance, which I did on 12/28/17. The operator told me to drive to the West Dundee location because they had a vehicle in my size range that could accommodate me. We drove an hour to get there only to find that they not only did not have our size vehicle, but they had no vehicles whatsoever. I called roadside assistance again and they said they had a misunderstanding of some sort (haha) and could I wait for them to find me another vehicle. Luckily this location was connected to a mall so I took my family inside to keep everyone calm. After waiting for an hour, I was contacted by roadside assistance to let me know that they had found a vehicle but it was an additional hour away at CHICAGO OHARE AIRPORT!!! I apologized to the lady, and explained that I could not take my family for a drive on Christmas vacation to Ohare Airport, that day was my mother in laws birthday and we had to get back (that was the whole reason for the trip). So we drove back another hour and parked the vehicle until our journey back to Michigan with the same wonderful Nissan Armada.

DOES NOT DESERVE ANY STARS! THIS COMPANY WILL ROB YOU OF YOUR MONEY MAKE SURE YOU KEEP DETAILED RECEIPTS OF EVERYTHING. THEY TOOK MY MONEY AFTER MADE A SPECIAL TRIP TO THE GAS STATION TO MAKE SURE I RETURNED THE TANK FULL. I SHOWED THEM MY CREDIT CARD RECEIPT SHOWING I DID THIS AND THEY STILL ONLY "OFFERED" HALF OF MY MONEY BACK SAYING THEY WENT TO THE GAS STATION FOR ME. WHEN I RETURNED THE CAR SHE SCANNED THE SIDE AND TOLD ME I AM ALL SET. BAD IDEA!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY WITH ALL COSTS. THEY WILL STEAL FROM YOU.

I was charged for gas after I returned it on a full tank.. I wonder how many people they do this to that don't notice. Also, it was 12 days after return before they notified (left message) that we left something in the car. I left two messages with lost and found - no reply. I called the local desk several times and never got answer. After 2.5 weeks of me trying (1 month after I returned the car), I wrote to the corporate office. Next day I call and guess what - got an live person to answer!

prepaid for my rental car with an upgrade for an SUV $329.06. This was a Jeep Highlander with 15,000 miles. It was a POS and was horribly out of alignment. Two hands on the wheel at all times or it would be in the ditch. Dropped off at the Grand Rapid airport with an absolute full tank of gas. Even topped it off at the Exion just outside the entrance to GR airport or $6.16. I told the young lady about the steering and alignment issues and how hard it was to drive. She was sweet and said I could get a $20 reimburse for my troubles. (Thought not much of a refund but something.) She also told me that she couldn't provide a receipt, but it will be e-mailed to me. Never found the email but on my bank statement, there was an additional $40.00 charge from Budget. When I called, they said this was for fuel. My word and my boyfriends against theirs. If I could find the receipts with a time stamp and send to this long email address, they might consider taking off the charge. Didn't keep the 6$ receipt but my Wells Fargo shows the charge. However, only the date is provided on the bank statement. Inquired about this $20 credit for the faulty rental car they had no record of the complaint and that I was out of luck. There was no record of a claim. Again my word against theirs.
