The car I rented was not equipped for the Chicago weather.  Wipers didn't work,  no washer fluid,  heat barely worked, filthy interior.  The rental agent did not care.  I tried to tell him this care is dangerous and he cut me off. Guess driving down the highway with dirty windows and snow/rain and no wipers to clean it is safe.

The guy (Andy) was rude.  He cut me off when I was telling him what I was looking for.  He gave me a price quote that was higher than the competition's. He made no effort to accommodate me or to give good customer service. When we were wrapping up our conversation he hung up the phone without even saying goodbye... never mind a "thank you for choosing Avis".  Terrible. Go somewhere else!

Sorry to read the other reviews. I had a great experience. I picked up and dropped off on a Saturday. The woman working was pleasant and thorough on helping with the inspection. Everything went very smoothly.

The service was great, but the car could have been cleaner. Not sure where the servicing of returned vehicles is done (airport?). The main benefit was low taxes. Renting from the airport would have cost me 2x more just because of the airport fees. Totally worth getting a cab to rent off site!

Getting yelled at to "not park on the lot" at the Avis agency in Oak Park, IL was similar to the unpleasant experience mentioned by another reviewer. Returning the rental vehicle we took care to NOT park on the Avis lot but yet walked away with a sense of sub-optimal and somewhat tardy customer relations. How about a friendly greeting and perhaps a smile folks ?

I reserved and prepaid for a car, when I got there to pick it up there were no cars available. The employees didn't seem to care that not honoring my reservation was screwing up my plans for the day.
