Great place to visit. I camped in the campground just north of Summit Lake and though it was busy, there was no feeling of being crowded. I enjoyed a predawn hike up the ridge to the east and was rewarded with a beautiful view as the sun rose and illuminated Mt Lassen.

Lassen peak is a 5 mile round trip hike uphill so it's a challenge. The payoff for your hard work is being on top of a volcano overlooking your beautiful surroundings. I would highly suggest camping here because the stars are at their brightest.

I have visited here during both the summer and winter months. Each offers entirely different views and experiences. Both are tremendous! During the summer, there are many hikes that provide different experiences. Bumpass Hell provides a longer hike with relatively flat terrain. It ends and numerous geologic formations. The hike to the top of Mount Lassen is a bit strenuous but provides great views and a chance to be on top of the park. Cinder cone is a relatively flat hike until you get to the cone. Hiking the cone is strenuous, however. During the winter, camping is allowed at the visitor's center only. Short hikes or snowshoe treks are possible. There is also an area for sledding.

So cool!!!!! If you get a chance get up there. I always have a great time, the rangers are really informative, views can't be beat. Be prepared for weather in winter, bring chains. Be careful sledding, can be hazards not visible. I really love this place, one of my favorite places in the state, well worth traveling here if you are into wilderness and adventure
