Updated: Everything from pickup to drop-off with the rental and process was smooth and flawless. The followup call I received after returning the car 4 days later about a strange odor was pretty strange but the management has informed me there will be no charges or penalties for me for what ever might have occurred after returning the car. I'm knocking off 1 star for my original review from the "peculiar smell" calls but overall I felt like between the cost and value this was a perfectly normal car rental experience for me. I typically rent around 40 cars a year for work related trips and 3 for personal vacations. This fell into the vacation category so I'm a little skeptical going forward but Hertz and National always out price the other brands on my vacation trips. My previous review based on the "peculiar smell" call: I would have given a 5 star review for the quick service and easy process until 4 days after returning the call I receive a voice mail from a manager saying the car has a peculiar smell and would need to be detailed. My wife and I drove the car from PDX to central Oregon then pretty much walked around town all week so this seems like a pretty absurd situation since we never noticed any smells. I called back and was passed between two different men on the phone both insisting I call back and leave a voicemail without giving me further details. Finally one of the men with an Asian accent tells me the next customer that rented the vehicle drove it around for half a day before calling in to complain of a fish smell to them. I'm realizing this seems to match the rest of the reviews on here so hopefully anyone else reading this realizes this isn't a joke and this location is apparently known for this problem. You are very likely to return a very clean car thinking you are clear from it happening to you and getting voicemail a week later that they plan to bill you for detailing. I've contacted Dollar Thrifty Automotive Group headquarters to report the situation so hopefully this gets investigated to figure out if someone in the car lot of smoking pot in the rental cars or what is happening.

I will never use them again, and honestly I will be even more hesitant to ever rent a car anywhere again because of this experience. Rented a car last week. My online quote was $58. *Knowing this seemed too good to be true*, I called them 3 days before my trip to ask if there would be any other fees or costs that weren't included in my online quote. She happily told me *no!* Well after they were super pushy I upgraded my vehicle because of the snow for $12/day, $24 total. SOMEHOW my total ended up being $204. Yes that was after I got the holding deposit back. My receipt included a bunch of ridiculous fees. I was in a HUGE time crunch on my short trip and had too much else to worry about to deal with them. All I know is that was significantly MORE THAN MY QUOTES FOR THE SAME TRIP FROM ENTERPRISE, BUDGET, AND AVIS. So they tricked me and were more expensive than every other rental car place and for nothing but bad customer service. They rush you in and out. I am honestly still so mad. Oh and the whole backseat was covered in dog fur when I picked the car up. So they probably didn't even clean it. With the extra costs they blindsighted me with, I COULD HAVE FLOWN INTO THE AIRPORT I COULDN'T AFFORD ORIGINALLY AND NOT EVEN NEEDED A RENTAL CAR. THEY COMPLETELY WASTED MY TIME AND RUINED MY TRIP. Thanks Dollar Rent a Car. You're a pathetic joke.

My wife and I had such a wonderful experience here when picking up our rental. The woman that helped us was so sweet and we got just the car we were hoping for. Even our experience dropping off went well. Fast forward 7 hours later, we are home and realize we are missing a shopping bag from a store earlier today. I can describe the bag, it's contents, and it's location to a T. I promptly call Dollar Rental and explain the situation. The man on the phone informs me that they typically wash the cars 10-15 minutes after the car is dropped off and will call the renter if something was left in the vehicle to catch them before their flight. What a fantastic concept! However, neither of us received phone calls or VMs. I let the man know that and ask him to check the lost and found. He checks, nothing. He offers to check the vehicle, nothing. He even checks the wash bay, nothing. When he gets back on the phone and explains that he couldn't find it, I ask what he suggests we do. He laughs and says he doesn't understand why anyone would want what we left. I assured him that although it seemed insignificant to him that it was significant to us. *We take full responsibility for leaving the items in the first place. We are human and make mistakes. I was willing to pay for whatever it took to get our items home.* Needless to say, if they had followed their own procedures and had called when they found the item, we would have returned and they would have gotten a 5 star review. But, I can only assume that one of the employees decided to take our things because we made no other stops since we purchased the items. I will be calling Corporate and filing a complaint on the matter as I find it disturbing that they have people who are willing to steal customers things from vehicles.

I showed up with a reservation from Thrifty (off airport) and Dollar got me a cheaper rate, and a great car...a one year old Subaru Crosstrek. Car was great and experience was good too. Carol Jones at front desk was very friendly and helpful. Return experience was good too. I would use again.

First time using dollar and the girl at the drop-off station must have thought we couldnt hear her because she was cussing and throwing her arms up until we finally parked. Then when she came out she acted like nothing had happened. Didn't get offered a receipt or anything. She just acted like it was such an inconvenience for us to return our car.
