Our worst experience at a car rental was by far at Budget. We first had to pick up a car in New Jersey, leave it in Boston and then fly back to Germany. After we showed voucher from check24, drivers license and passport as usual, the employee wanted to see our flight tickets, to make sure we leave the country again. Of course we didn´t have those with us, because our luggage was still at our accomodation, one hour with the metro away, apart from that there was no word concerning that in our documents. Until now no one ever asked for flight tickets, not in the USA, where we already rented a few cars, nor anywhere else. Flight tickets are none of their business! Me, my man and my son all had valid german passports and our ESTA visa was still valid for two years, we never had problems with anyone in the USA, except Budget car rental. Since we don´t have mobile Internet overseas and no one at the rental station offered any help, we had to wander through the streets to find a Starbucks in order to get WiFi access, when we then finally found the ticket in an email from five months ago, the employee barely payed attention to it and then gave us the car anyways, more than one hour later, so we, despite generous scheduling, barely made it in time to our check out at our lodging. In Boston, we returned the car normally, without any problems as always and then, for the interest of the employee in New Jersey, as planned me and my family took our flight back home.
I would never rent a car at Budget again from now on and I can only urge anyone to not choose the station in New Jersey if you do.
