I am a long-time Emerald Club member.  Rented in numerous airports, including SLC, and never had problem.  Until this trip.  Upon entering return garage, I immediately came up on a non-rental car parked in wrong direction, from which employee suddenly emerged waving his arms.  Had no idea what he was doing.  So pulled up out of traffic to make sure I was in right place upon which same employee came to my car and proceeded to give me a lecture.  Ugh!  Last thing any weary traveler needs at end of long road trip is:  1) unintelligible, incomprehensible parking communication, and 2) an arrogant employee who thinks the customer should understand his primal communication.  Maybe it was just bad luck.  Or maybe National needs to invest in some traffic cones and employees that don't jump out at you like street vendors on crack.

I am an Emerald Club member and I love being able to 'pick' my own car when I arrive. It is one of the main reasons I always rent from National. But today I want to shine a light on someone at National who really went above and beyond for me and my sister, who is physically handicapped. We picked up our car on Sept 11, 2017, at Salt Lake City Airport. We drove to Ogden, Utah. Later that evening we went out and we had problems with the check engine light. We were so afraid to drive anywhere. We ate nth in our late 60's and by ourselves. We were leaving for Yellowstone N.P. the next morning and I didn't know how we would be able to get another car and I was afraid to drive ours anywhere! When I called the National emergency number, I met John Reilly (spellng?). It was after the time that a car could be dispatched from Salt Lake City Airport. But given my circumstances, he performed miracles for me. Shortly after midnight, a tow truck showed up with another car for me and my sister.  We were able to enjoy our vacation that we had looked forward to for so long. Thank you to JOHN. He is another reason I always rent from National Car Rental.

Don't bother...Just go to Avis. I travel 100% for work, I have top tier status at national. At this location it means nothing. Not only do wait in long lines, not only is the service the worst, not only do you only get Chevy cars, but they do not even upgrade you. My 3 last rentals were, a limited durango, a Volvo XC60, a Cadillac CTS. At this location it was a Malibu with 17k on it, a Malibu with 38K on it and an Equinox with 28k on it. None of which had heated seats. One did not even have power seats and two did not auto climate control. So not only do you get only Chevy's but even those cars have no options on them. I can get a Malibu from any other National at it will be loaded with navigation, heated seats, auto climate, etc. This location has basic cars you would find at Alamo. There is no distinguishing treatment whether it is in the vehicles or service for national status. Everyone gets treated the same. Personally I hate this location and it negatively changes my impression of the otherwise stellar service and selection National normally offers. National really needs to close this location down and open it back up under a new owner that does not own a chevy dealership and cares about their customers.

National Salt Lake City Airport is owned by a Chevrolet dealership and they do not have any other cars but Chevies! Now not just any Chevy but the ones that are completely stripped out of all the options and have 40k + miles on them! As an Emerald Executive Élite you don’t get any benefits but to stand in the freezing weather outside for an hour as you’sd have to rent from the counter! At least if you are not Emerald you’d get to stand in line inside. I had to come because of Sundance but I wouldn’t visit this city ever again!
